The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

Daily Star - Escwa Holds Assembly On Natural Disaster Action

BEIRUT: The UN Economic and Social Committee for West Asia (ESCWA) held the fourth assembly of its technical committee on Monday and focused on issues such as climate change, food security and woman empowerment. ESCWA secretary general Bader al-Dafeh stressed the importance of development, especially during a time “laden with natural or human made disasters,” and discussed with the attendees pressing regional issues such as climate change, food security and woman empowerment. The assembly also tackled the proposed framework for the years 2012 and 2013, which focused on natural resources, climate change, complete social policies, economic development, financing development, information and telecommunication, statistics, woman empowerment, peace and development during crises. – The Daily Star
