Now Lebanon - Gemayel: Wait for STL’s indictment before dealing with false witnesses - October 18, 2010

Nothing can be said about false witnesses until the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) issues its indictment, Kataeb Party head Amin Gemayel told MTV on Sunday.
The cabinet is expected to discuss the issue of false witnesses during its Wednesday session.
The false witnesses issue is “made out of nothing” since “even today we do not know who is a false witness,” he added.
Gemayel also said that determinations on false witnesses cannot be made without the STL since all the necessary information is in the tribunal’s files in the Hague.
Tensions are high in Lebanon after reports that the STL could soon issue its indictment in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, and March 8 politicians have called for the tribunal’s abolition while arguing that it has been politicized and misled by false testimonies.
In an interview with LBCI television on Monday evening, Gemayel said that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad “wants to change the face of the region through popular demonstrations in the South [of Lebanon] and Dahiye.”
Ahmadinejad arrived in Beirut Wednesday morning on an official visit and left the country on Thursday night. While in Lebanon, he met with top Lebanese officials and also addressed large crowds at Hezbollah rallies.
Ahmadinejad “put Lebanon in an axis [of confrontation] without taking the opinion of the Lebanese people, government, or parliament,” Gemayel added.
