Now Lebanon - Jaber: False witnesses issue moving toward resolution - October 26, 2010

Development and Liberation bloc MP Yassine Jaber told the Voice of Lebanon (VOL) radio station on Tuesday that the issue of “false witnesses” is moving toward being resolved.
“The goal behind postponing [the talks] on the issue of false witnesses is to find a solution that pleases all parties,” Jaber said.
“We have to support President Michel Sleiman and Speaker Nabih Berri’s efforts to find a solution to the issue,” Jaber said, adding that parties must reach a middle ground on the matter.
On August 18, the cabinet delegated Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar to prepare a report on the matter of alleged false witnesses. Several March 8 figures have called for the issue to be referred to the Justice Council, while March 14 parties want the regular judicial bodies to deal with the issue.
Tension ran high in Lebanon after reports said that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) will soon issue its indictment in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. There are fears that, should the court indict Hezbollah members, it could lead to clashes similar to those of the 2008 May Events – when gunmen led by Hezbollah took over half of Beirut.
