Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Ali Moqdad cleared the air about a statement he made Tuesday regarding the issue of “false witnesses.”
In an interview with Al-Liwaa newspaper published on Wednesday, Moqdad said that the March 8 coalition is united behind its calls to transfer the issue of “false witnesses” to the Justice Council.
“In case an agreement is not reached on the issue, let it be put up for a vote [in the cabinet].”
Moqdad told OTV on Tuesday, “Let the cabinet transfer the issue of false witnesses to regular judicial bodies as long as they are tried.”
The cabinet is expected to discuss on Wednesday the issue of witnesses who gave unreliable testimonies to the investigation of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 2005 assassination.
March 8 politicians have called for the cabinet to task the Justice Council with investigating the issue of “false witnesses.”
However, March 14 figures have said that the regular judiciary should handle the matter.
