The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

Daily Star - Parliament Committees Meet On Climate Change

BEIRUT: The Public Works and Energy as well as the Environment parliamentary committees held a joint meeting on Tuesday to discuss the outcome and recommendations of the UN Climate Change Conference held in Copenhagen in December. Following the meeting, Head of the Environment Committee MP Marwan Hamadeh said the two commissions came up with a joint-action plan. He added that Lebanon’s contribution to the fight against global warming was discussed. Head of the Public Works and Energy parliamentary committee MP Mohammad Qabbani, meanwhile, said that the purpose of the meeting was to assess the Copenhagen summit. He added that Lebanon should encourage renewable energy and reduce consumption of energy. – The Daily Star
