Now Lebanon - Ad-Diyar: France knows content of STL’s indictment - October 27, 2010

Ad-Diyar newspaper reported on Wednesday that French officials were informed about the content of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL)’s pending indictment, adding that the court will indict Hezbollah members in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.“The indictment relies on phone call data and does not offer any [tangible] information on how the murder was conducted,” the daily said, according to an unnamed diplomat. The paper also said that “France will try to convince the US of the risks of the STL’s indictment and its [negative] repercussions on the Middle East once it is issued.”Tensions ran high in Lebanon after reports said that the STL will soon issue its indictment in the Rafik Hariri murder. There are fears that, should the court indict Hezbollah members, it could lead to clashes similar to those of the 2008 May Events – when gunmen led by Hezbollah took over half of Beirut.
