Now Lebanon - Soueid: STL cannot be terminated - October 26, 2010

March 14 General Secretariat Coordinator Fares Soueid told LBCI television on Tuesday that all parties must know that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) cannot be terminated by anything other than a UN Security Council resolution.
“[Nothing] can terminate the STL,” Soueid said.
He also said that Lebanese-Syrian relations should be based on state-to-state cooperation, without interference in any countries’ domestic affairs.
Tension ran high in Lebanon after reports said that the STL will soon issue its indictment in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. There are fears that, should the court indict Hezbollah members, it could lead to clashes similar to those of the 2008 May Events – when gunmen led by Hezbollah took over half of Beirut.
