The Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) has proven once again that it is not politicized, Lebanon First bloc MP Hadi Hobeich said Wednesday.
The STL Appeals Chamber’s affirmation of the tribunal’s jurisdiction in former General Security chief Jamil as-Sayyed’s request is among several STL decisions “in March 8’s interest,” even though March 8 insists that the tribunal is politicized, he told Future News.
Earlier Wednesday, the Appeals Chamber unanimously rejected STL Prosecutor General Daniel Bellemare’s appeal against Pre-Trial Judge Daniel Fransen’s ruling that the tribunal has the jurisdiction to examine Sayyed’s request.
Sayyed, who was detained from 2005 to 2009 on suspicion of involvement in former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 2005 murder, is seeking documents related to his detention in order to sue those who he claims gave false testimony against him.
