Reports that Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) units raided the house of an ISF adjutant—identified only as A. A.—in Majdel Aanjar, confiscated a weapons cache, and detained him for questioning are inaccurate, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) General Directorate said in a statement issued of Sunday.
No weapons cache was found in the officer’s house and he has no connection to fundamentalist cells in the area, the statement said, adding that he was detained on October 22 before being released the following day after an investigation.
A Lebanese major and his adjutant were killed in the town of Majdel Aanjar in the Bekaa Valley on Thursday when their vehicle came under gunfire during a raid aimed at finding an army deserter. Media reports said afterward that the shooting was done in revenge for the killing of Fatah al-Islam head and Al-Qaeda leader Abed al-Kahwan Awad by the LAF in Chtoura in August.
