Now Lebanon - British ambassador says STL is no one’s tool - December 14, 2010

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) “is not a tool in anyone’s hands,” British Ambassador to Lebanon Frances Guy said in an interview published on Tuesday.
The STL’s indictment ought to be dealt with “on the basis that it is not punishment, but rather a process of domestic reconciliation,” Guy told An-Nahar newspaper.
“No one knows what the indictment will contain […] there will not be any accusation of a party, a political movement, or a state – rather, it will be against individuals involved in the crime.”
“Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, so we should not fear going to court and proving the innocence of whoever is accused,” she said.
The UK is worried by Hezbollah’s announcement that it is increasing its weapons arsenal because this is a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, she also said.
Tensions are high in Lebanon amid reports that the STL may soon indict Hezbollah members in its investigation of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 2005 murder.
Hezbollah has repeatedly said that the tribunal is an American-Israeli conspiracy against the Resistance and threatened to "cut off the hand" of anyone who tries to arrest any of its members in the case.
