Now Lebanon - Labor Ministry opens hotline for foreign female workers, March 27, 2014

In reaction to repeated abuses against foreign female workers, Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi announced the formation of a hotline for the victims to report cases of mistreatment.

“The number - 01540114 - [has been set up] to receive complaints from female workers or reports of abuse against them,” Azzi told NOW.

He added that after the recent beating and rape of an Ethiopian woman in an employment office, a meeting was held with the Syndicate of Owners of Worker Recruitment Agencies.

According to Azzi, the meeting covered all areas of the issue and decided “to take strict action against those who commit such morally outrageous [acts]. The Labor Ministry will [become] a watchful eye through the creation of this hotline.”

The labor minister also confirmed that the ministry’s investigative body had been tasked to monitor the activity of employment offices.
