The Daily Star - ISF: Over 100 boys fell victim to Sidon sextortionist, November 14, 2014

A 22-year-old Palestinian man arrested last week for using social media to sexually extort Internet users had duped over 100 underage victims, police said Friday.

A statement issued by the Internal Security Forces said police arrested J.A. on Saturday at Nijmeh Square in the southern city of Sidon after allegations were brought against him by fellow Palestinian national, 15-year-old M.H.

It said he pretended to be a girl on social media where he tricked more than 100 underage boys into sending him pornographic photos and videos of themselves. He then threatened to post the images on social media unless they paid him.

A security source on Sunday told The Daily Star that the suspect was identified as Jaafar A., a resident of the Sayroub neighborhood.

The source had said that the arrest came after the father of one of Jaafar’s victims had complained to the police. The source added that at least a dozen men fell victim to the scam, most of them Jaafar’s age or younger.

The Friday statement said the suspect confessed to maing 1,050 acquaintances through four fake Facebook accounts and that he maintained contact with them via Whatsapp under a false girl’s name.

The underage boy who the came forward said J.A. had tried to blackmail him by threatening to publish his photos and that he would party with him and try to sexually harass him, according to police.
