Now Lebanon - No race between STL indictment and ministerial statement, Berri reportedly says - June 29, 2011

MPs who met with Speaker Nabih Berri on Wednesday quoted the speaker as saying that “there is a fabricated race [in-time]” between the issuance of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s (STL) indictment and the drafting of the ministerial statement, the National News Agency reported.
The notion that the cabinet is racing against the STL’s indictment comes as part of the efforts to obstruct the newly-formed government, Berri’s also reportedly said.
“There are efforts to speed up the process to finalize the ministerial statement,” the MPs also cited the speaker as saying.
Berri told As-Safir newspaper that if the cabinet does not finish drafting the ministerial statement before July 13, he will call for consultations to appoint a new PM.
Following its June 13 formation, Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s government tasked a committee composed of 10 ministers representing the cabinet’s factions to draft a ministerial statement.
The committee is debating over how to approach the issue of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, which Hezbollah has repeatedly warned aims to incite strife in the country.
