BEIRUT: Japan signed a deal with the government Friday that will see $2 million worth of rehabilitation for one of the country’s largest Palestinian refugee camps.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency donated the money in order to tackle the increasing infrastructure needs of Ain al-Hilweh camp, close to the southern port city of Sidon.
The project will be implemented by the United Nations Relief Works Agency. “We are aware that the infrastructure rehabilitation of Ain al-Hilweh is a vital need,” Junichi Tamada, director general of JICA, said.
“We are very pleased to extend this important project in partnership with the Lebanese government and UNRWA.
We hope our intervention contributes to improving the camp living conditions and also encourages more assistance from other donors.”
