The Daily Star - Syrian dissident’s family marks disappearance, May 28 2012

BEIRUT: The family of Syrian dissident Shibli Aisamy marked Sunday the first anniversary of his disappearance with calls for determining his fate. A rally held on the occasion in the mountain town of Aley was attended by Aisamy’s family, relatives, some March 14 MPs and Aley residents. Addressing the rally, Aisamy’s daughter, Rajaa Sharafeddine, accused the Syrian regime of kidnapping her father and called for action to secure his freedom. “We did not meet today to announce who kidnapped Shibli Aisamy. It has been known to everyone that the Syrian regime is behind the crime of kidnapping,” she said. She called on Lebanese security forces and judicial authorities to determine how her father had been kidnapped. Sharafeddine also called on President Michel Sleiman, Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Najib Mikati and leaders of Lebanese opposition and pro-Syrian parties, including Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, to intercede with the Syrian regime to secure Aisamy’s release and determine his fate. Aisamy, 88, who was once a Syrian vice president, disappeared in May last year after leaving his daughter’s home in Aley for a walk. His family says that they were informed that he is currently in Syria.
