The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

Suspect who Killed Army Officer in al-Ghobairi Charged with Murder


State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr charged Wednesday Hassan Karaki with killing Officer Abbas Jomaa and attempted murder.
According to the National News Agency, Karaki was referred to the first Military Examining Magistrate.
Karaki, also known as Antar, opened fire at an army patrol pursuing him in al-Ghobairi killing Jomaa and wounding several others.
The suspect was detained in September in the Beirut southern suburb of al-Kafaat.
Jomaa died at dawn on 24 September from wounds he sustained during the clashes with Antar.
He was laid to rest during an official funeral that was attended by a number of political and military officials.
Karaki is wanted on several arrest warrants for being involved in an organized crime and is deemed very dangerous.
