June 28, 2010 - Naharnet - Hajj Hasan: STL an American Product in Every sense of the Word

Agriculture Minister Hussein Hajj Hasan stated Wednesday that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon is "an American product in every sense of the word," repeating Hizbullah's rejection of any possible accusation against the party or its members.

"Any accusation of members of the party will drag the country towards problems and a very difficult situation," he told New TV.

"Hizbullah does not oppose the idea of a tribunal, but the problem lies in its content seeing as it cannot try false witnesses and therefore cannot give justice to those whom it wrongfully accused," the minister added.

Furthermore, he said that those bargaining on a rift in ties between Hizbullah and Syria will be proven wrong as statements by Syrian officials have all affirmed the "excellent" relations between the two sides.

Addressing Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Hajj Hasan said: "It's in his best interest and ours that the country remain stable," pointing out that statements by some Mustaqbal MPs indicate that they still believe that Syria is behind former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri's assassination.
