The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

Suspect charged with murder of Army officer

BEIRUT: A man believed to have shot a Lebanese Army officer who later died of his wounds was charged with murder Wednesday. Military Prosecutor Saqr Saqr charged Hasan Karaki with “deliberately killing Col. Abbas Jomaa and trying to kill others during a [Sept. 21] Lebanese Army raid in the Beirut southern suburb of Ghobeiri.” Jomaa was shot and wounded in the hunt for Karaki. Several other Army soldiers were also wounded in the chase. Jomaa died of his wounds a few days later. Karaki, who has several other criminal charges against him, is in military custody.
