Now Lebanon - Al-Hayat: Bellemare did not request fingerprints of whole Lebanese population - March 4, 2011

Reports that Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) Prosecutor-General Daniel Bellemare has asked for the fingerprints of all Lebanese in the country are false, Al-Hayat newspaper reported on Friday.
The daily quoted anonymous well-informed sources as saying that Bellemare has asked the Interior Ministry for the fingerprints of only 1,000 Lebanese.
Bellemare has also asked the Telecommunications Ministry to provide an official record of telecom data previously supplied to international investigators and the Energy Ministry to give the names and addresses of the owners of some electricity meters, the sources said.
He is also seeking “information related to the investigation with employees in the Public Works Ministry,” they added.
Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati on Thursday evening voiced surprise at Bellemare’s requests for information from Lebanese authorities, adding that he fears efforts to obtain a UN Security Council resolution to force compliance with them.
