The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

Daily Star - Rights activist commits suicide in Amsheet, September 17, 2011

BEIRUT: The body of a human rights activist was discovered in Jbeil Friday, the victim of an apparent suicide.
Police found the body of Nour Merheb, 26, in a chalet in Amsheet, Jbeil, according to the National News Agency, which said that a video containing a suicide note was found at the scene, explaining that Merheb used helium to take his life, though a video has been circulated online showing the victim hung.Also, hours before his body was found, a posting on Merheb’s Facebook appeared showing he intended to take his own life.Merheb was sentenced by the Military Tribunal last year to three months in prison for refusing to pay a court-ordered fine in an assault case, even though he was the victim of a beating by an off-duty army soldier.
