Head of the Iqraa
organization for social development Sheikh Bilal Diqmaq stated that technical
difficulties have thwarted the release of all the Lebanese held in Syria in one
go, reported the Kuwaiti al-Anba daily on Sunday.
He told the daily that
the kidnappers had informed a European journalist, of Arab origins, that the
remainder of the captives “will be released before the Adha holiday.”
The holiday lands at the
end of October.
Two of the 11 Lebanese
pilgrims who were kidnapped in Syria in May have so far been released.
Diqmaq, who is playing a
mediator role in the affair, predicted the issue to be “completely resolved as
soon as possible.”
In addition, he
attributed the delay in the release of the nine remaining pilgrims to the
practices of al-Meqdad clan's military wing that had carried out kidnapping
against Syrian and Turkish nationals in Lebanon in August in retaliation to the
abduction of its relative Hassan al-Meqdad in Syria.
The abduction of the
Syrian and Turkish nationals in Lebanon complicated matters, said Diqmaq.
A number of the members of
al-Meqdad military wing were arrested in recent weeks for their abduction of foreign
nationals.http://www.naharnet.com/stories/en/55346
