Lebanon First bloc MP Jean Ogassapian said in an interview published on Monday that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) will not be discussed at the national dialogue “because the tribunal is already a fact.”
“[The STL’s] procedures already started and the indictment [was issued]; [the tribunal] was agreed upon unanimously in 2006,” he told Al-Mustaqbal newspaper.
Ogassapian added that Hezbollah’s arms should be discussed at the national dialogue, adding that there is no reason to hold the session if it does not tackle the issue of non-state arms.
He also said Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s visit to the South should be judged from foreign policy perspective, adding that the March 14 parties do not have a negative stance on President Michel Sleiman.
The STL indicted four members of the Iranian-and Syrian-backed Hezbollah in connection to the 2005 assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri, but the party’s secretary general, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, ruled out their arrest.
