The Daily Star - Civil Defense teams battle fire in Choueifat - November 16, 2010

By Mohammed Zaatari
BEIRUT: A huge fire erupted in the woods near the southern Beirut town of Choueifat Sunday night, threatening nearby residences.
As The Daily Star went to press, Civil Defense teams managed to contain the fire, which resulted from fire crackers being lit near the woods. No casualties were reported.
The unusually hot weather contributed to the fire expanding, said a source from the Civil Defense.
The Lebanese Army and the Civil Defense also battled blazes in the southern towns of Blida, Jarjou and Shhabieh. Nepalese peacekeepers of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon helped contain the fire that erupted in Blida. Similar fires erupted in the Mount Lebanon towns of Qabrshmoun and Hamana.– Mohammed Zaatari
