The Daily Star - Israeli collaborator given death sentence - February 18, 2011

BEIRUT: The Permanent Military Tribunal handed down a death sentence against a man convicted of collaborating with Israel Thursday. Amin Ibrahim Baba, who was arrested in early 2010, was accused of providing Israeli authorities with information about the residences of Hezbollah officials and political facilities in south Lebanon. The information in question included the home of Mahmoud Majzoub, a commander of the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad, who was assassinated along with his brother in a car blast in Sidon in May 2006. Based on the verdict, Baba, who is the seventh Lebanese citizen to receive a death sentence for collaborating with Israel in less than one year, was recruited by Israeli intelligence in 1997. Baba used maps to specify the Sidon-area locations of the offices of Islamic Jihad and the Popular Nasserite Organization and the home of Hezbollah official Mohammad Kawtharani. –The Daily Star
