Italian Ambassador to Lebanon Gabriel Checchia said that Italy respects the UN’s decision to establish the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), the National News Agency (NNA) reported on Monday.
UN Security Council Resolution 1595, which was passed in 2005, called for an investigation to bring to justice the perpetrators of former PM Rafik Hariri’s 2005 assassination.
Checchia said that all countries should respect Lebanon’s sovereignty, adding that UNIFIL’s role and its cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) maintains security and stability in South Lebanon.
