August 18, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Syrian daily praises Hezbollah for handing over evidence

Syrian newspaper Al-Watan quoted on Wednesday an unnamed source as saying that Hezbollah’s handing over of its evidence on the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri is a very important step, even though the party does not trust the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).

Attorney General Judge Said Mirza received on Tuesday from Hezbollah a file containing the information requested last week by the STL pertaining to the killing of Rafik Hariri.

During a press conference last week, Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah showed video footage and the confession of an alleged spy, which he said implicate Israel in the assassination.

Hezbollah presented the evidence to the Lebanese judiciary because the party is keen for the truth be found, the daily added.
