Now Lebanon - As-Safir: Bourj Abi Haidar detainees are not politically-affiliated, August 31, 2010

As-Safir quoted on Tuesday an unnamed security source as saying that preliminary investigations related to last week’s Bourj Abi Haidar clashes showed that those arrested do not belong to any political organization.

A deadly street battle shook the Bourj Abi Haidar district in the Lebanese capital on August 24, pitting supporters of Hezbollah against those of Sunni outfit Al-Ahbash – also known as Association of Islamic Charitable Projects – two parties with warm ties to Damascus.

The daily added that most detainees are ex-offenders.
