Now Lebanon - Baroud says MPs’ bodyguards at Sayyed’s airport reception, Al-Mustaqbal reports - September 22, 2010

An unnamed source told Al-Mustaqbal newspaper in an interview published on Wednesday that Interior Minister Ziad Baroud submitted a report during Tuesday’s cabinet session that “the armed men who entered [Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International] Airport [on Saturday] were MPs’ bodyguards.”

Tensions between the Future Movement and Hezbollah ran high after armed Hezbollah bodyguards received former General Security chief Jamil as-Sayyed at the airport without the needed permission from any of the relevant bodies.

Sayyed, who had returned from France, was summoned by Attorney General Judge Said Mirza for questioning following the former’s September 12 statement, in which he attacked Prime Minister Saad Hariri. Hezbollah on Friday called for the judiciary to revoke the summons.

Meanwhile, Labor Minister Boutros Harb rejected Baroud’s report, saying that “everyone saw what [really] happened on TV,” the daily added.
