Now Lebanon - Houri: Lebanon First wants to resolve issue of false witnesses - September 22, 2010

Lebanon First bloc MP Ammar Houri told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Wednesday that his bloc wants to resolve the issue of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s (STL) false witnesses.

He also voiced his surprise that the March 8 coalition attacked Prime Minister Saad Hariri after he gave his September 6 interview with As-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper.

Hariri told the daily that some people misled the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) investigation into the 2005 assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri and thereby damaged Syrian-Lebanese relations and “politicized the assassination.”

Instead, the March 8 coalition got upset for some unknown reason, as if Hariri had taken away the alibi they were using for political gains, Houri added.

The cabinet delegated Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar to follow up on the issue last month. However, March 8 coalition parties—including Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement—have called for the formation of a Lebanese commission to follow up on the issue of the false witnesses.
