Now Lebanon - NNA: Assiri says Lebanese should reach plan to deal with STL indictment - September 22, 2010

The National News Agency (NNA) quoted on Wednesday Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awad Assiri as saying that the Lebanese parties should reach a plan through dialogue to deal with the repercussions of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL)’s indictment when it is issued.

“The STL is a Lebanese affair,” Assiri said, adding that the Lebanese parties must foster dialogue to be ready to deal with any indictment issued by the tribunal.

“Saudi King [Abdullah bin Abdel Aziz] is keen on preserving the unity of the Lebanese and the stability of the country,” Assiri said.

Tension is high in Lebanon after reports said that the STL will soon issue its indictment into the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. In July, Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said that the tribunal is “an Israeli project” that will indict Hezbollah members.
