Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun has reportedly tried to "mobilize" Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah against the arrest of retired Brig. Gen. Fayez Karam.
However, Nasrallah asked Aoun to ease up given that the Intelligence Bureau's decision to arrest the top FPM official couldn't have come without evidence and a clear examination of Karam's suspected ties to Israel.
An Nahar daily quoted sources as saying that Karam was arrested after luring him into a meeting with head of the Intelligence Bureau Col. Wissam al-Hassan.
In their last phone conversation, al-Hassan asked Karam to visit him at his office and confronted him with a file implicating him in the spying case, the sources said.
Karam's home was later raided, they said.
