August 15, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Adwan: Hezbollah’s media campaign is a step in the right direction

“Any Lebanese party depending on democratic methods to defend itself, including [communicating through] the media, is headed in the right direction,” Lebanese Forces bloc MP George Adwan said of Hezbollah in the newspaper Sada al-Balad on Sunday.

“When Hezbollah utilizes democratic methods, [such as] the media or [state] institutions, to express its point of view, it widens its shared ground with the Lebanese people,” he said.

Minister of State for Administrative Reform Mohammad Fneish said Friday that Hezbollah will submit information requested by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) to the Lebanese authorities, after a press conference last Monday during which Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah showed video footage and the confession of an alleged spy which he said implicate Israel in former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 2005 assassination.

Nasrallah said in July that the STL will indict some of his party members and warned that the tribunal is an “Israeli project” aiming to incite domestic strife.

Adwan stressed that the contents of the STL’s indictment are still unknown.

He added that he was not surprised by Nasrallah’s claim that Israel had tried to assassinate Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, since Israel seeks to sow division in Lebanon.
