The Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH) is a local non-profit, non-partisan Lebanese human rights organization in Beirut that was established by the Franco-Lebanese Movement SOLIDA (Support for Lebanese Detained Arbitrarily) in 2006. SOLIDA has been active since 1996 in the struggle against arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and the impunity of those perpetrating gross human violations.

August 15, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Hussein: Hariri’s speech aimed to calm those stirring up chaos

Speaking to Future News on Sunday, Minister of State Adnan as-Sayyed Hussein said that Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s Saturday speech “was not directed at any side in particular, but to anyone shouting or trying to cause chaos.”

Several media reports expected Hariri to make a political statement in response to Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s Monday press conference presentation of video footage and the taped confession of an alleged Israeli spy. Nasrallah said this alleged evidence implicates Israel in the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

In his speech, Hariri said, “I am concerned about all [state] matters because I am [former PM] Rafik Hariri’s son and because I am Lebanon’s Prime Minister,” adding that he will respond to latest Lebanese developments, including those related to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), only when he thinks he should.

“The important thing is that we consider stability as the basis for judgment,” Hussein added, saying that “the country is headed for calm, not escalation.”
