Now Lebanon - As-Safir: French envoy says Paris will maintain STL support - September 17, 2010

French Permanent Representative to the UN Gérard Araud said that his country will maintain its support for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), As-Safir newspaper reported.

According to the daily, an unnamed French source said that Araud met with STL Prosecutor General Daniel Bellemare at the UN’s New York headquarters in July to review the STL's pending indictment and the material that the prosecutor has gathered so far.

The source said that “Araud is [saying] that the STL indictment will be issued before the end of this year, in which Hezbollah members will be named.”

The daily also said that Bellemare is relying on phone call data to be used as evidence in the tribunal's indictment.

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said in July that the STL is “an Israeli project” that will indict Hezbollah members.
