August 16, 2010 - Now Lebanon - Saudi Arabia displeased with Nasrallah, says source

An anonymous source told Syrian newspaper Al-Watan in an interview published on Monday that Saudi Arabia is not pleased with the statements voiced by Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah during his press conference last Monday “because [the statements] obstruct Saudi efforts [to defuse tension in Lebanon].”

The Hezbollah chief presented during his press conference footage he said came from Israeli Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) monitoring late former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and a confession from a suspected Israeli spy.

Nasrallah’s statements do not serve uncovering the truth behind the 2005 assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri, the source said.

“The international investigative commission [into the Rafik Hariri murder] might use Nasrallah’s [alleged] evidence to prove its credibility,” the source added.

The source also said that Prime Minister Saad Hariri will not respond to any statement related to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) as per Saudi Arabia’s request, and in order to avoid tension in Lebanon.

Media reports expected Hariri to respond to Nasrallah’s Monday press conference.

In his Saturday speech, Hariri said that he will comment on latest Lebanese developments, including those related to the STL, when the time is right.
