Now Lebanon - Abdullah submits memorandum on Palestinian rights to Berri

Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) representative in Lebanon Abdullah Abdullah met with Speaker Nabih Berri in the latter’s Ain al-Tineh residence on Monday and submitted a memorandum on Palestinian rights in Lebanon, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The issue of Palestinian rights sparked debate after Democratic Gathering bloc leader MP Walid Jumblatt submitted a proposal to parliament on June 15 to grant Palestinian refugees in Lebanon civil rights. The majority of Christian MPs voted against the bill.

The parliament is expected to tackle the matter during its August 17 session.

A delegation of Palestinian forces in Lebanon also submitted to Berri earlier in the day a memorandum on the matter.

Berri met with Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali and Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Ahmad Bidawi respectively earlier on Monday to discuss bilateral ties.

Berri also met with UNIFIL Commander General Alberto Asarta Cuevas to address the situation in South Lebanon and UNIFIL’s work.
